More on my Sony HDR-SR12

I’ve had my Sony HDR-SR12 for a few days now and I’m still very impressed with it, easy to use, lots of options, image quality is beautiful.

The one real issue I have at this time is working with the files it produces. I have a pretty basic computer, not a lot of grunt and I’ve found that the highest quality video the camcorder produces can’t play that well on my computer, so in order to play them I have to convert them to another video format, which I’m teaching myself about now, but that’s all for playback on a computer, hook the camcorder directly to a HD-TV and no problems, full High-Def viewing.

The HDR-SR12 produces .mts AVCHD something or other video files and mpeg2 files, software support for the former is hard to find and it seems to work with these files I may need to buy some high end video editing software like Sony Vegas etc, but I’m sure there must be some free software out there, just gotta keep looking.

So the HDR-SR12 may not be the best choice for the casual user, unless you just want to shoot and watch on a HD-TV then I think it’s all good, especially with the 120GB hdd.

On another note I was out plane spotting yesterday using the camera and oh my lord, using full digital zoom I could pretty much see the nuts and bolts of the plane, as soon as I figure out the editing I’ll have a video up.

Also as a free gift for purchasing the HDR-SR12 I just placed my order for a cute little Sony Cybershot DSC-T2 8MP Digital Camera More on my Sony HDR SR12, worth about $600 down here, I’d say the price is so high due to the 4gigs of inbuilt memory. It comes in multiple colors, but the problem for me is I got in to late and they only had pink left, maybe I can colour it in.
